Lioba Abrell

The artist Lioba Abrell, whose work includes installations, sculpture, video, photography and drawing, deals with basic experiences of human existence, such as birth, death and becoming conscious.

Preferably, she works with natural materials. Her sculptures are casings of wood and stone. In a long and careful process, it hollowed out the material to the limit of its capacity, leaving only the edges. The work requires craftsmanship, discipline, physical performance, dealing with the material, but also with their ideas of interior and boundary, death and life.

The abolition and change of the material is a principle in the art practice of Lioba Abrell. A second principle is the ranking. So there are works with 100, even with 10,000 individual works, which brings them together into a single work.
